NPP seems to have learned a new lesson with various promises from the manifesto – Bokpin

Economist and finance professor Professor Godfred Alufar Bokpin says the ruling New Patriotic Party appears to have learned a new lesson from the sheer number of promises made in its recent manifesto.

He said the content of the 2020 party manifesto gives an indication that the party has taken into account criticisms against a large number of promises and has worked to achieve this by reducing them in its recent manifesto.

“The NPP seems to have learned a useful lesson given the criticism that came with their huge promises and what they have been able to do, so there is a small reduction and the need to consolidate part of their policy,” he said.

However, he noted that the NDC has not learned such lessons.

“Unfortunately for the NDC, having been in power for eight years and the challenges they have seen, they seem to have gone the other way,” he said.

His comments are part of the discussions on the manifestos of the two main political parties in the country.

The New Patriotic Party (PNP), in August released its Manifesto that contained a total of 143 promises, compared to a total of 510 promises made in 2016.

Subsequently, the NDC [in September] he also released his. The NDC had captured a total of 617 pledges in its 2020 manifesto versus 666 pledges in 2016.

Speaking on Joy News’ news analysis show, News Archive on Saturday, Professor Bopkin lamented the large number of promises made by politicians before the elections.

He said that political parties make too many promises that do not fit the country’s fiscal space.

This, he says, creates an implementation and sustainability problem for many listed promises / projects.

Based on this, he praised the PNP for ensuring a drastic reduction in the number of policies envisaged before a new administration.
