President Akufo-Addo laid the groundwork for the reconstruction of a 40.4-kilometer highway linking Bechem-Techimantia in the Tano Sur municipality of the Ahafo region and Akumadan in the Offinso Norte district of the Ashanti region.

He said that when completed, it will enhance vehicle and pedestrian movement between Tano South and Offinso North to boost economic activities for wealth creation.

The ceremony was part of the president’s two-day working tour of the Ahafo region. He had previously inspected ongoing rehabilitation work on the Techire-Adrobaa highway in Tano North Township and also paid a courtesy visit to Nana Boakye Tromo II, the supreme head of the traditional Duayaw-Nkwanta area in Tano South.

In shedding more light on the project, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, said that the project would cost € 50 million and is expected to be completed in 24 months.

He said it was a dual-surfaced road, which would include street lamps and other road furniture to improve safety in other communities, including Dwomo and Derma in the Tano Sur municipality.

Nathaniel Asare, Commercial and Construction Manager for the project, said that all things being equal, it would start in November this year.

Nana Ampong Kromanten, Techimantia’s ‘Kurontirehene’, on behalf of the people, praised President Akufo-Addo for putting Ghana on the right track and the rapid pace of socio-economic development and the introduction of the Free Upper Secondary Education Policy.

He requested the teachers’ bungalows, a van, a children’s bedroom and a dining room for the Techimantia SHS.
