Rescue teams recovered the body of a boy from the Oti River in Kete-Krachi after a boat accident.
Kete-Krachi Police Commander, Deputy Police Superintendent Samuel Nkrumah, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Momkokpamo’s body was recovered by divers around 7pm on Wednesday when the boat capsized in a storm in the Krachi West district of the Oti region. .
ASP Nkrumah said five others involved in the boat accident were rescued by divers after the incident and taken to Krachi West district hospital.
He said three of the victims were admitted while two were discharged.
Nkrumah said naval officer CO Boakye warned boat operators of an approaching storm and warned operators to allow the strong winds to subside, but the operator of the crashed vessel defied the order.
Nkrumah said the accident occurred about 300 meters from the landing beach at Kete-Krachi after the operator set sail for Nkomi, a Sene East suburb in the Bono region.
He said the incident was witnessed by people in the overbank, who organized the rescue mission to save the five.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was delivered to the parents for burial while the Police searched for the operator of the boat.
He appealed to the public to assist in the arrest of the operator.
