Kwame Awuah-Darko, a member of the 2020 Manifesto Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that the party’s manifesto reflects the aspirations of Ghanaians and embodies everything the people want in their government.
He said that in coming out with the manifesto, the party had to let the head listen to the rest of the body rather than the tail wagging the dog.
The former BOST chief said the manifesto “is what the people of Ghana are asking of their political leaders.”
In a media interaction about what went into preparing the party’s program for his next administration, Awuah-Darko said the party listened to the needs of the people of Ghana and what they would want from their government.
That, he explained, led the party to come up with a plan or manifesto that would capture the aspirations of the people.
“This manifesto was made by the people of Ghana, for the people of Ghana. NDC pretty much made it easy and the Manifesto Committee chair, secretary, and all key members did a great job. His Excellency the (former) president was also involved in its composition, ”he said.
“It is not the tail wagging the dog, it is the head listening to the rest of the body. Which is how it should be. Because if you want to guide people, you must understand not only who they are but where they are and then you must have a vision that articulates where we would all like to go and where we would like to be ”, he added.
The NDC released its manifesto for the 2020 presidential election on Monday, September 7, 2020. The party in its manifesto has published a long list of things it wants to implement and undertake if it is elected again to power on December 7.
While the party and its supporters have described the manifesto as addressing the needs of the Ghanaian people with its many social policies, some critics say the manifesto raises more questions that demand answers, especially when it comes to the issue of funding.
