Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced that there will be an interruption of the water supply to the eastern part of the Greater Accra region between 14 and 20 September 2020.

In a statement, the GWCL said the outage is to allow its engineers to replace about two kilometers of weak transmission pipes from Kpong to Tema.

Areas to be affected by the outage include Afienya, Apollonia, Gbetsele, Ashaiman, Katamanso, Kakasunanka, AdjeiKojo, East Legon, Trassaco, and all communities in Tema (Community 1 to 25).

The others are Free Trade Zone enclaves, Tema Industrial Area, Dawhenya, Prampram, Spintex Road, Batsonaa, Coca Cola, Kasapreko, Manet, Lashibi, Klagon, Sakumono and the surrounding communities.

The statement further urged consumers, especially in eastern Accra, to store enough water for consumption during the shutdown period.

“The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Management wishes to inform the general public that there will be an interruption of the water supply to the eastern part of the Greater Accra region from Monday 14 to Saturday 20 September 2020,” it said the notice.

“GWCL engineers will replace about 2 kilometers of a weak session of the 42-inch diameter transmission main from Kpong to Tema, which is causing GWCL to lose multiple volumes of water on a daily basis and consequently have a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption. “

Meanwhile, the GWCL says it has implemented measures that include providing free water reservoirs to serve affected areas.

Furthermore, “essential service providers such as hospitals and schools will also have tanker trucks.”
