The editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has challenged the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) to set a time frame in which his future government will abolish the two-track system.
The NDC promised in its 2020 Manifesto to abolish the dual-track education system if the party receives the go-ahead in the December 7 general election.
“We have every plan and desire to make the free SHS that much better by ensuring that numerous challenges are addressed and that higher academic and operational standards are introduced and maintained. To do this, we will abolish the two-track system, ”said NDC running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman at the launch of the 2020 NDC Manifesto on September 7, 2020, at the Accra University for Professional Studies.
But commenting on the issue on the morning show Peace FM monitored by Kasapafmonline.com, the veteran journalist stated that it is not enough for the NDC to simply say that it will abolish the dual track system.
He said there should be a set deadline for the cancellation so that Ghanaians can make the party deliver on its promise.
“The double track is an essential feature, albeit temporary, of Free SHS, you play with the idea that you will cancel but you don’t give a deadline. I think this government gave a time frame (5 years) to phase out the double track system. This was a pragmatic reaction to a Herculean task. Cancel double track and it’ll kill that baby (Free SHS). The NDC must inform us when they will cancel the two-way system. What is the time period, one, two or three years? In fact, it is an unrealistic proposal, it should not be questioned. If you put this in your manifest and continue with that, within a year you will collapse the system. “
