The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northeast Region lashed out at the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for participating in a campaign tour at a time when the lives and properties of people in the Region are being washed away by floods.
Imoro Abdul-Razak, NDC Northeast’s regional communications officer, described Veep’s tour in a press release as “irresponsible” and “insensitive,” and said he takes his re-election more seriously than the lives and property of his own people.
Mr. Abdul-Razak further accused Dr. Bawumia of pretending not to see what is happening to the people of the Northeast Region, following the Bagre Dam spill and the recent continuous rains experienced in the region.

STOP THE IRRESPONSIBLE AND CALOSY TOUR AND GET COMMISSION ON YOUR PEOPLE – Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia.
The attention of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to the ravages caused by the recent torrential rains in the north, causing varying degrees of property damage and, in some cases, loss of life.
Nadmo’s appeal in the region to the government after the Bagre dam spill in Burkina Faso in early August fell on the ears of death. A letter spotted by the NDC in the region confirms this. With this statement, we are extending our heartfelt and sincere condolences;
(1) To the Bunkpurugu families who lost three capable people sometime in the past week in the Bunkpurugu / Nakpanduri district.
(2) The Langbinsi and Janga families who lost their loved ones three days ago, in the districts of East Mamprusi and West Mamprusi respectively and lastly, only on Friday 5 September 2 farmers drowned in the white Volta in a attempt to rescue lives and property.
Precious lives have been lost in all of them, houses and homes with flooded valuables, displacement of homeless people, isolation of communities and hectares of land ready to harvest corn and other grains submerged in the waters of torrential rains as well as the discharge from the Bagre dam.
But, it is interesting to note that, with all these devastating unconditional devastations, the Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, a son of the Region, has not heard or seen on television what these people are going through.
Rather, he is seen vigorously touring the northern region and shamefully and sadly stoking ethnic sentiments against his older brother, the former president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for sharing a post by a parliamentarian on Facebook that described certain corrupt elements who they were perpetrating corrupt activities throughout the day in the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as “Akyeme Sakawa Boys”.
But in the same vain he hypocritically failed to fight for the people of WALEWALE when he was called “WALEWALE Adam Smith”, but for political expediency, Dr Mahamud Bawumi of an Akyem Indian and less of a Walewale.
In light of the above, we ask the Vice President to stop his responsible and inhumane campaign tour and we urge bereaved families to sympathize with them for their loss.
Furthermore, we call on Nadmo to respond urgently to the cries of the people of the Northeast Region as a matter of duty and national.
Thank you.
