Some Zoomlion Ghana health guards in Hohoe Municipality have asked their employers to pay their salaries.
They said that the current economic situation had brought them financial challenges and therefore they had no choice but to ask for payment of their 18 months of arrears.
A sanitation guard and spokesperson for the group, who wants to remain anonymous, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they fulfilled their duties at the Municipal Office of Environmental Health, but several attempts made for their payment were unsuccessful. success.
He said that it mostly took them a few months before they received part of their accumulated monthly allowances of GH ₵ 100, which was concerning.
“Sometimes we wait up to eight months before receiving the three-month payment and it is a worrying situation,” he said.
Mr Philip Anim, Volta Regional Environmental Sanitation Supervisor of Zoomlion Ghana, when contacted by GNA said that the payment of workers’ wages was delayed due to lack of funds and the lack of some sanitation workers to present their monthly report to the various Environmental Health Offices in their respective districts.
He said that it was difficult for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to validate the workers, who did not submit monthly reports and assured that it would be authorized once the funds were released to do so.
