Ghana and Chelsea legend Michael Essien has been named Nordsjaelland’s assistant coach of the Danish top flight, Ghanasoccernenet.com can reveal.
The 37-year-old has been appointed Player Coach for the ambitious Farum-based club and has several Ghanaian players in its ranks.
The former Chelsea superstar, who visited the club last month at the special invitation of club president Tom Veron, has agreed to join the club’s coaching staff.
Essien, who is currently in the final stages of acquiring his coach badges with the English Football Federation, has now agreed to a contract to be one of the club’s assistant coaches.
You will join the staff in an assistant role and participate in training alongside the players to help implement the drills and ideas in the best possible way.
The former Real Madrid and Lyon midfielder will also contribute further input to the coaching group’s assessments of the subsequent training session.

Essien visited the FC Nordsjælland club base in Farum town a couple of weeks ago for a week as inspiration for his continuing coaching training.
Here he had the opportunity to be part of the work around the Super League team and various of the club’s academy teams, just to gain a better understanding of the teaching and development of youth off the field at Nordsjaelland.
Now Essien will contribute himself as he has agreed to join the club’s technical team with head coach Flemming Pedersen next season with the title of player coach.
Thus, Essien will be part of the coaching team as an assistant at the same time that she can and will participate in the training sessions to implement the exercises in the best possible way and be able to provide new inputs to the evaluations of the coaching team.
