An alleged armed robber has been struck and killed by a moving vehicle on the Mpaha Highway in the central Gonja district of the Savannah region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday as the vehicle, a Benz bus with registration GR 4336 D, was heading to Mpaha from Buipe.

The deceased is believed to be part of a gang of thieves who ambush vehicles and travelers along the route.

This time, however, he met his untimely death while attempting an attack.

The vehicle, with an unknown number of passengers, was traveling from Buipe market to Mpaha when the driver spotted two Fulani pullers hiding in a nearby bush.

One of the assailants armed with a shotgun suddenly emerged from the bush and fired at the vehicle’s windshield.

The driver, who was hell-bent on saving his life and that of his passengers, collides with one of them in an attempt to escape the shot, killing him instantly while the other gunman fled into a nearby bush.

Some of the passengers on board, however, suffered varying degrees of injuries and were transferred to TTH for treatment.

According to the Central Gonja police, a shotgun, 3 rounds of BB ammunition and a spent cartridge were found in the possession of the deceased and recovered. The crashed vehicle was also towed to the Buipe police station.

Meanwhile, the body of the alleged thief has been transferred to the morgue of the Tamale Teaching hospital.
