The member of Parliament for the Adaklu constituency, Kwame Agbodza, has accused the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of collapsing key sectors of the economy, including the aviation sector.
Mr. Agbodza told Johnnie Hughes on TV3’s New Day on Monday September 7 that when Kufuor took over the administration of the country from the Rawlings, Ghana had Ghana Airways Company Limited, which was operating effectively.
However, he said, the government led by John Agyekum Kufuor collapsed the company and the properties were sold.
Mr. Agbodza also accused the current PNP administration of trying to sell the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) themselves, a situation against which he asked Ghanaians to speak.
Speaking before the launch of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) manifesto, he said: “Imagine if the NDC never existed, what will the state of the aviation sector be today? What has the nuclear power plant done in the aviation sector?
“Do not forget that Ghana even had our own airline at the time the NDC left power, before it was not immediate, when the nuclear power plant arrived they sold it.
“They sold Ghana Airways properties around the world in Dusseldorf, in London, in New York, they sold them. They sold it to themselves and formed Ghana’s international airline, which collapsed in their faces.
“Which airport can the nuclear power plant say that it expanded? See Kotoka, nothing. Yes, they have taken an additional loan to continue what NDC was doing in Kumasi. Ho airport has been completed sitting there and they have refused to activate it and then they go to Cape Coast.
“Ask yourself today, when Kotoka is rated the most improved airport in the world, what has NPP added to it?
“Today they are trying to sell that to themselves. Kotoka has capacity for the next five to seven years because it is built to handle five to ten million passengers a year, we are currently doing 1.2 million, so there is no need to do any additional terminals or anything, we can handle that. terminal.
When asked to explain what he meant by the nuclear power plant selling Kotoka to themselves, he said: “They are trying to sell it to themselves, they went to form ponzi companies abroad, as they have created for Agyapa, which is a ponzi scheme, they’ve gone to create all kinds of ponzi schemes in tax havens to annex the wealth of this country and hand it over to the people and I’m amazed the Ghanaians aren’t upset.
“Which airport can NPP say has expanded? Nothing. Yes, they have taken an additional loan for Kumasi to continue what NDC was doing. “In response to his comments on the same program, Sekondi MP Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer asked Ghanaians to ignore the allegations of his fellow legislator against the PNP because he has no evidence.
In addition, he said that the PNP government has been credited with instituting projects and initiatives that touch the very core of Ghanaian society.
“The PNP had introduced projects to guarantee the well-being of the people. The introduction of the National Health Insurance Plan obviously did a lot for the vast majority of our people, the introduction of the free SHS has made education a factor of equalization among all households, regardless of economic context.
“Calling each other thieves for the simple reason that it is obviously what will generate public disgust for politicians. I think it is an honorable calling that we all offer ourselves to help people cry and so that we can continue to call ourselves thieves and let the people of Ghana hate the political class.
“It is important that when you claim you must prove, but listen to comments from the opposition from the NDC in particular that they fail to prove and ask others to prove it,” he said.
