The chiefs and people of Osenase and its surrounding communities have called for the completion of the E-Block initiated by the previous government to allow the area to have access to a secondary school.
They argued that despite the area being the second most populous in West Akyem Township, it lacked a secondary school to supplement the growing number.
This came to light in a social audit organized by the West Akyem Municipal Clerk of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Osenase in the Eastern Region.
The community also called for the expansion of the existing water facility to meet the growing demand of the population, the expansion of its truck station and the reconstruction of its public sanitary facilities.
People questioned why more than 80% of the development projects implemented by the City Assembly from 2017 to 2020 were concentrated in the Asamankese area.
The municipal executive director of West Akyem (MCE), Mr. Seth Oduro-Boadu, assured that the issues raised by the community will be addressed by the Municipal Assembly.
However, he explained that current government policy is to encourage homeowners to provide sanitation services in their homes.
NCCE’s West Akyem City Director, Modesta Annie Sapaty, encouraged Osenase bosses and people to hold duty bearers accountable as this is one of the surest ways to curb corruption in public life.
Ms. Sapaty explained that the social audit also helped promote community ownership of development projects and increased people’s awareness of local government operations in their area.
He said that the social audit project was part of the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program (ARAP), which sought to promote good governance in Ghana by reducing and improving accountability in compliance with the rule of law.
Nana Agyenim Boateng, Kyiridomhene from Osenase who chaired the program, expressed her appreciation for the platform created for citizens to voice their concerns in the presence of duty bearers and urged duty bearers to do well to address the concerns raised by people.
