93 suspected criminals arrested in police raid

The Accra Regional Police Command in the early hours of Friday arrested some 93 suspected criminals in areas of drug trafficking and designated crimes in the Accra Metropolis.

The police seized quantities of wrapped dried leaves that were suspected of being Indian hemp.

The suspects, aged 18 to 60, were arrested in separate operations in the Tesano Division, the Jamestown Division and the Odokor Division.

Other areas included Dome Railways, Lapaz, Akwetteyman, Ofankor Cemetery, Asofan, Alajo, and Christian Village.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Afful Boakye Yiadom, told the media that the rest of the raids were carried out in Palledium, Akuma Village and Adedenkpo / Timber market within the command of James Town and Odorkor Official Town, Odorkor Township, Mallam and Gbawe under the Odorkor division.

DCOP Yiadom said the operation is part of the strategies outlined by the Police to thwart and eliminate criminal elements within the metropolis and create an environment conducive to the upcoming general elections.

The Regional Commander said that the exercise will continue throughout the period.

He said the suspects were currently being examined as part of profiling processes to determine their involvement or otherwise in other criminal activities that are being investigated by the divisions.
