National House of Chiefs public relations officer Stephen Owusu has urged Ghanaians to ignore a statement circulating on social media and in some newspapers about former President John Dramani Mahama’s tribal comments on social media.

According to him, the National House of Chiefs has not issued any statement in this regard, alleging that someone used the Institution’s letterhead to issue the statement.

This follows a highly ethnocentric post made by the standard-bearer of the opposition Democratic National Congress on his Facebook timeline a few days ago.

In the post that appears to suggest that the Agyapa royalty investment deal was a fraudulent arrangement between President Akufo-Addo and the people of Akyem in the eastern region, Mr. Mahama uncharitably descended on the good people of Akyem, describing them with words that cannot be printed.

The post, which was initially written and shared by Bolgatanga’s Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo, was shared by Mahama on his Facebook page on Monday, August 31, 2020.

In an interview on the Atinka TV morning show Ghana Nie, Stephen Owusu said that the National House of Chiefs will call on the IGP and the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to intervene in the matter and present the culprits.

“Although technology has come to help us develop, this is not the way we want, but rather to use the letterhead of the National House of Chiefs to issue statements. We will call the IGP and the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), so that they intervene in the matter and put the culprits in the book, “he said.

He said that the president of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, has not commented on what former president Mahama posted.

He added that “we have not made any decision about what Mahama did because we had a meeting last Friday, and if something happens, the Chiefs will condemn what is wrong, but it is unfortunate that this has been attributed to the President of the National House of Chiefs. ”.
