Kuami Eugene, recently crowned Artist of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), says he doesn’t expect rapper Sarkodie to congratulate him after winning the title.
The ‘Open Gate’ hitmaker in an interview with Doreen Avio and Mercury Quaye on Cruise Control on Hitz FM said he feels the award-winning rapper respects his space and therefore won’t call him.
“I didn’t expect Sarkodie to call me because maybe he respects his space so much that he doesn’t call a kid like me to say ‘Kuami, congratulations.’
“Maybe it’s because he was part of that category and has his own thoughts and mindset on all this,” he said.
Describing how he would feel if Sarkodie congratulated him, Kuami Eugene said that he will be excited.
“If he calls and says ‘congratulations to Kuami’ I’d say ‘thank you very much’ and I’d be super happy because it’s Sarkodie.
“But again, it is not by force. Sarkodie doesn’t have to call me to congratulate me just to make amends for what people may be saying. I’m not saying that Sarkodie should congratulate me strongly.
“He is not required to do that.”
However, the Lynx Entertainment signatory was quick on what many colleagues in the music industry have approached since the award.
“Some people have called me to say, you deserve this, you deserve that. I also spoke with Diana Hamilton, and Kinaata congratulated me that night.
“Also, Medikal, Sista Afia, Kidi, Adina and Krymi were at my appreciation party,” she revealed.
Kuami Eugene won the largest award in the 21S t Vodafone Ghana Music Awards when he was crowned Artist of the Year above Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinataa and Diana Hamilton.
