Last Friday (April 24), Travis Scott and Kid Cudi teamed up to release their new joint single “The Scotts”, and fans were quick to stream and purchase the much-publicized cut the moment it came out. Now, just days after its first follow-up frame, the song is already heading towards a very impressive debut on the Hot 100, and could possibly reach # 1 as it arrives.
It is too early to project exactly how well “The Scotts” will perform in terms of first week sales or broadcasts, but both will surely be considerable, and the combination of the two may be large enough to offset what will surely be. Some lackluster attention from the radio, as is often the case with new tunes.
According to reports, on its first day of availability, “The Scotts” ranked No. 1 track on Spotify with just under 7.5 million currents. That’s a huge number, and it’s enough to give the song the biggest debut in a single day on the world’s most popular streaming platform of 2020, beating Billie Eilish. James Bond musical theme “There is no time to die”. Not all of those plays are from listeners in the United States, but a large portion probably is, and that sum is only one day in seven, so the total for the first week is sure to be very impressive.
“The Scotts” was teased throughout Scott’s virtual tour of the online game Fortnite, and over a two-day period, fans were able to hear snippets of the cut before it fully arrived. Once it fell, many of the 12 million attendees likely rushed to hear the full tune, helping their streaming numbers go even higher.
Also helping “The Scotts” amass a fair amount of streams, there are a number of YouTube images showing the cut, and they’re all featured on Scott’s own YouTube page. In addition to being able to buy from sites like Amazon and iTunes, super fans of Scott or Kid Cudi (or both artists) can also get copies of their new hit on vinyl, CD single or even cassette, which is sure to increase total introductory sales. . .
If “The Scotts” debuts at No. 1 on the Hot 100, it will mark Scott’s third top and Kid Cudi’s first. Scott first rose to the throne on the all-genre song chart in 2018 with “Sicko Mode,” and then debuted his recent hit “Highest in the Room” at the top of the ranking late last year. If the tune is opened by the most important account, Scott will become one of the few musicians who has made more than a single No. 1 debut, joining artists like Mariah Carey and Drake in the process.
