Three alleged armed robbers are in the hands of the Damongo Police Command.
According to the District Police Inspector Joe Botwe, the arrest took place in the middle of a robbery operation on the Damongo-Kotito Highway in the West Gonja district of the Savannah region.
Speaking to Rebecca Natomah of Adom News, Police Inspector Joe Botwe said that some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team were returning from Kotito when they were ambushed by armed robbers.
He said the flashlights used by the thieves forced the driver of his vehicle to back up, giving the occupants and other members on motorcycles time to escape.
The men, who rushed to the Busunu police post to file an official complaint, left their vehicle and three motorcycles.
When the police arrived at the scene of the robbery, they were able to arrest three of the robbers.
Items recovered included the three motorcycles belonging to the campaign team, a pistol and knives.
Subsequently, the Busunu police turned the men over to the Damongo police.
Inspector Joe Botwe added that the suspects have been processed for court and are expected to appear today, September 1.
