Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah says past achievements should encourage the club to move towards professionalism as they celebrate their anniversary.
The Porcupine Warriors are celebrating their 85th anniversary today, August 31. The club was formed that day in 1935.
“Our great achievements in the past 85 years came with great efforts, resulting in Asante Kotoko being recognized in the African soccer industry as one of the greatest,” read a portion of the CEO’s statement.
“Looking ahead, past achievements should encourage us to propel us towards professionalism. A development that will drive the club through ideas, innovation, knowledge, experience, hard work and will focus on becoming the most important brand in African football driven by a sustainable economic approach. “
Amponsah, who was named in the first week of August, assured fans of his commitment to strengthening the club.
“We are all prepared to strengthen Asante Kotoko by finding solutions to our challenges and ensuring we overcome and regain our great heritage as the greatest club in Africa.”
Kotoko, in its 85 years of existence, has been successful locally and internationally, winning a total of 57 trophies.
In Ghana, it is the most successful club in the Premier League, winning a record 23 times, while it is the second most successful in terms of the FA Cup, having won it nine times.
It remains the most successful club in Ghana in the CAF Champions League, winning the competition twice. However, his last triumph came in 1983.
