Two people reportedly lost their lives from gunshot wounds at Abossey Okai in Accra on Saturday 30 August.

The incident occurred during this year’s annual Ga Mashi Homowo festival, which police say was organized by traditional leaders without their notice.

Joynews reported that police rushed to the area when shots were heard during the performance of some traditional rites as part of the celebration.

According to the police, three people who were injured by the shooting were rushed to the Shukura Community Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where the doctors declared the two mentioned dead while under treatment.

However, the third victim who sustained a right arm injury was reportedly treated and released from the hospital.

The Ghana Police Service said they were conducting investigations to find out if the shooting had anything to do with the celebration and also to identify and arrest the culprits.
