The Tain District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized the Social Audit Engagement in Yabraso, a community in the district to promote transparency and accountability.

The forum marking the second phase of social audit engagements sought to promote community ownership and commitment to development projects, as well as increase awareness of local government operations and empower citizens to demand accountability for the guarantors of duties.

The event was part of the Commission’s Responsibility, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program (ARAP) to promote good governance, reduce corruption and improve accountability.

The Commission’s District Director, Mr. Jacob Dorzie, in his speech said that social auditing gives people outside of government operations the opportunity to influence the formulation, implementation and evaluation of policies.

According to him, the commitment to social auditing is a wake-up call for citizens to avoid all forms of selfishness and become more patriotic and development-oriented citizens in their communities.

He added that, to have the full power and right to hold duty bearers accountable for their stewardship, we, as citizens, must meet our legal responsibilities by paying our taxes, participating in community work, and protecting our environment.

The Commission’s Deputy Regional Director Bono, Mr. Peter Kwabena Gyasi, advised the participants to view development projects and policies as their own, but not for the government because they have been executed by the government.

He called on community members to always monitor the implementation of community projects and programs that are running in their community, be it by the government or a non-governmental organization, because it is for the community.

During the engagement, a five-member committee led by Wuda, Zachariah Yakubu, Assemblyman for the election of Yabraso, was inaugurated to monitor the implementation of projects, especially the construction of a CHPS complex for the community.
