The perceived food poisoning situation involving some high school students (JHS) in Ho has stabilized, according to Madam Rejoice Afi Agyagbo, Volta regional coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP).

About 21 students from four JHS in Ho were rushed to Ho municipal hospital on Thursday, when they complained of upset and stomach pain, dizziness and weakness after suspecting that their hot meal of plain rice, bean stew and egg was became problematic.

Meanwhile, hospital sources said the students were treated and released.

The GSFP coordinator, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on Friday after the public outcry for the safety of his children, asked school authorities to help monitor the intake of the meals, which are supposed to be eaten hot. .

She said some of the affected students revealed that they did not eat the food at the time it was served, but ate it later, around 1800 hours on the destination day, which she alluded to as the cause of the problem.

Ms. Agyagbo said that those who ate the meals at the scene did not find any stomach problems and asked the schools for help in this case.

He said it was problematic for bean flours to be packaged hot and eaten later and said “it is not appropriate to store it and consume it later.”

She said her attire could be adjusted for proper meals in areas where there were yam-related problems, as many areas of the municipality had yet to celebrate yam, which means the product cannot be served now.

The Coordinator said that a total of 74 public and 23 private JHS benefited from the initiative in Ho municipality and throughout the country for 20 days.

Raphael Amenyo, Ho’s municipal education director, said students from Holy Spirit Basic JHS, Royal Praise, New Seed International and Volta Rising Star JHS complained about consuming Wednesday’s meal but found stomach problems when they reported to school. Thursday.

He denied the students’ claim that “no students were admitted in this case, they were treated and released accordingly.”

He said that the Municipal met with the heads of the JHS and was particularly in charge of supervising the initiative to prevent its recurrence.

Amenyo said plans were activated to meet with all caterers on the initiative on Monday to draw a common front.
