Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that the only time Arsene Wenger lost his temper with him was after taking a famous selfie after a victory over Tottenham.
An early goal by Tomas Rosicky gave the Gunners a 1-0 victory over their big rivals at White Hart Lane in 2014, and Arsenal have not beaten the Spurs in the Premier League since then.
After full time, a clearly delighted Szczesny, who now plays for Juventus, took a photo of himself along with Lukas Podolski and Kieran Gibbs in front of fans who celebrated and posted it on social media.
But speaking to Arsenal’s In Lockdown podcast, Szczesny said Wenger was far from impressed with the actions of his No. 1 keeper.
When asked if he had ever received a comment from Wenger during his time at the club, Szczesny replied: “I had one that I was not happy about, that was the famous selfie in White Hart Lane.
“He wasn’t exactly happy about that and looking back, he would never do it again. But I think he was 21 or 22 years old at the time and you really enjoy that kind of thing and it was great for me again then.
“Now that I remember it, it was probably childish and I know I wasn’t happy with that at the time. There were no punishments at all, but he let me know.”
“It may not be exactly accurate in the way I report this to you, but it was something like ‘You never see Iker Casillas doing that, right?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, you’re probably there.’ “
Although Wenger clearly was not thrilled with Szczesny’s demeanor, Gunners supporters are a big fan of the image, and still regularly use it to mock the faithful Spurs.
