Roy Hodgson brought efficiency to my game – Jordan

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew got lyrical about his boss Roy Hodgson for helping him develop as a player.

The duo began working together in the 2018/19 season, where Ayew was loaned to the Eagles.

He failed to impress, scoring just once in 20 league games, but Hodgson gave him another chance to improve after a stellar African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in 2019 with the Black Stars.

The 28-year-old has been spectacular ever since. The former Marseille forward scored nine goals in 37 league games last season, the highest for the team.

He was also named Crystal Palace Player of the Season, Player of the Season Player and won the club’s Goal of the Season award.

Jordan revealed that Hodgson improved his efficiency in front of goal.

“First of all, I would like to thank you [Roy Hodgson], the staff and the board as well. During the training sessions, although the weekend things were not going the way we all wanted, it was showing good things, so I think that is what pushed them to make it permanent, ”he informed the Ghanaian media.

“I fought hard and that forced him to give me a chance to prove myself week after week. He has been very good to me. “

“It has given me efficiency in my game and it has made me understand that football is about efficiency and, of course, I understood that if I have two chances, I have to make sure that at least one enters because we are in a team where I don’t we play. We didn’t create a lot of opportunities, so we really needed to be clinicians. “

He also noticed that his mindset changed just before AFCON and that helped improve his form.

“Before going to AFCON, I realized that I had to change my mind. I had to change many things that I was doing previously and I think it was worth it. In life you reach a certain age and you start to think differently and you start to look at yourself and ask yourself what you have to change and improve ”, he said.

“I think it is my mentality that changed a lot and the coach saw it. I thank God that things turned out very well. I didn’t expect it, but like I said, it’s life when you work hard, you will be rewarded. I’m using the same routines that I used before AFCON so far so I think it’s the right direction for me and I’m sticking in that direction. “
