A 22-year-old student has appeared in Accra circuit court for allegedly inflicting deep cutlass wounds on a Gardner in Sasabi, near Oyibi in Accra.

Benjamin Mensah is said to have followed the victim home and injured him with a cutlass.

Mensah, accused of causing harm, pleaded not guilty.

Defense attorney GNK Owoo prayed for the court to admit his client on bail because the defendant would not interfere with the investigation and would readily attend court sessions to prove his innocence.

The court presided over by Ms. Evelyn Asamoah admitted Mensah to bail in the amount of GH ¢ 50,000.00 with three bonds.

The prosecution was ordered to hand over all relevant disclosures and documents to the defendant and it was archived until September 20.

The court adjourned the matter until September 29.

The chief inspector of the prosecution, Emmanuel Haligah, reported that the complainant resides in Sasabi, near Oyibi, in Accra. Mensah also resides in the same neighborhood as his father.

The prosecution said that on July 19 this year, the victim went to the home of Mensah’s father after he (the victim) was invited by the accused father.

Upon the victim’s arrival, Mensah was offended and pushed the victim who fell to the ground because the victim had opened the door without his permission.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that this resulted in a fight between the victim and the accused.

The accused father who was then in his room arrived at the scene and separated them.

The victim returned home.

Chief Inspector Haligah said that Mensah followed the victim home with a cutlass and inflicted deep wounds on his left shoulder.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that the victim was rushed to Legon Hospital by some witnesses. Mensah, however, after committing the crime, went into hiding.

A complaint was made to the Police on August 14, this year the accused father handed him over to the Police.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that the defendant in his statement of caution admitted the crime.
