Karim Benzema continued his great scoring status as Real Madrid prepared for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Liverpool with the win over Eibar.
The Frenchman scored his 24th goal of the season with a firm header from eight yards in the 73rd minute.
Marco Asensio scored the first goal when he came in from midfielder Casemiro.
The victory puts Real Madrid three points behind leaders Atlético de Madrid, who are in Seville on Sunday.
For coach Zinedine Zidane, this victory was the perfect way to mark his 250th game at Los Blancos.
The French manager had been under pressure earlier this season, following the Copa del Rey loss to Alcoyano, but his side have been racking up victories since February and could still finish with the La Liga-Champions League double.
Real dominated troubled Eibar for much of the game. Aside from the goals, the Spanish internationals Asensio, Benzema and Casemiro had shots discarded for offside, while Isco approached with a free kick that went from the crossbar.
Eibar, second from the bottom on goal difference, looked threatening up front but lacked edge. Alejandro Pozo cut a shot from inside the area and Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois did well to block a low shot from Takashi Inui late in the game.
