The ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) led by its 2020 Election Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, has responded to a series of questions raised by the Democratic National Congress (NDC) at a press conference held today.
According to NDC President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the PNP established a machinery to manipulate the 2020 elections immediately after taking office in 2017.
CE, NIA in NPP collusions
He alleges that the Electoral Commission (CE) and the National Identification Authority are conspiring to suppress votes in the strengths of the opposition party.
At a press conference on Thursday afternoon, the NDC national president stated that the EC decision to press for the Ghana card, birth certificate and passport as the main documents needed to register during the exercise of Voter registration is part of a grand scheme to manipulate the 2020 elections in favor of the existing nuclear power plant.
Wondering why the EC would like to ignore voter ID, which he says is the country’s most credible identity document and opt for the use of birth certificates, he accused the NIA of increasing the number of registration centers in the region of Ashanti while keeping few in the NDC’s strengths as part of the voter suppression agenda.
“The president, seeing defeat staring at him, is in conjunction with the CE led by Jean Mensa and the NIA-led Ken Attafuah with desperate plans to manipulate the 2020 elections and cling to power at all costs.
“Even the unusual circumstances in which we find ourselves requiring us to unite for our collective survival as a nation are not sufficient to deter the actors in this plot from their ungodly act,He stated.
NDC lacks a credible candidate
But in response, the NPP Campaign Manager, speaking at a press conference held moments after the one organized by his political rivals, said “Ghanaians know best.”
“The NDC’s plan is nothing more than inventing motives for chaos, disunity and fear. They are doing it because they don’t have a good candidate and a good story to tell voters in December. It is the record of fraud under the John Dramani Mahama’s leadership that the NDC should be afraid to confront the Ghanaian people again for their vote, and not the false conspiracy to manipulate elections against them. “ he answered.
He said it was not the fault of the Ghanaians, and indeed the ruling party, that the NDC chose to bring Mahama back as its presidential candidate for the 2020 elections; the same man under whose leadership the NDC suffered its greatest electoral defeat.
“It is not NPP’s fault that the NDC decided to bring in as the 2020 presidential candidate the same man who gave Ghana the worst economic growth performance since 1994.” added.
Achievements will speak
He reiterated that the PNP does not need the Electoral Commission (EC) to manipulate an election in its favor in view of its many achievements.
“A government that has sent 1.3 million children to school that if the NDC were in power would be on the streets does not need an election to manipulate in its favor, a government that has restored industries and is creating jobs for people not it needs an election to be manipulated in its favor, a government that has put 100,000 unemployed graduates to work does not need an election to be manipulated in its favor. “ he said at the press conference in Accra on Thursday.
Inevitable defeat
Peter Mac-Manu also indicated that the PNP intends to fight hard and cleanly to win the 2020 elections based on his performance in government since he took office in 2017.
“… the inevitable defeat of the NDC in December 2020 is inevitable“he added.
