Inusah Fusieni, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from Tamale Central, has opposed calls for change in minority leadership in Parliament.
Mr. Fuseini feels that any leadership change within the Minority, which is made up of the Democratic National Congress caucus, will be the “height of stupidity” on the part of the party.
There is concern that the minority will face a leadership crisis with some NDC loyalists calling for an immediate review following the disputed approval of some of President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees.
It has also come under fire for doing too little to bring the ruling government under control.
But Fuseini replied that leaders do not change in times of crisis.
“In stormy waters, captains don’t jump off the boat. They use all their leadership skills and abilities to stabilize the ship and when the storm calms down and the ship is stable, they may choose to put down their tools, but this is not the time. We do not have to expel the leadership and doing so now with the greatest respect will be the height of stupidity.
A former majority leader, Cletus Avoka , previously criticized calls for a change in minority leadership.
He thinks the minority side will fare worse if calls for leadership reform are successful.
“As of now, I don’t support it. We will be worse off in Parliament because I don’t think they deserve to be changed. I believe that some people who ask for a change are exercising it in a position of ignorance. They do not know the full fact and therefore want to make a decision without appreciating the circumstances in which we do some things in Parliament.
