The Ministry of Education (MoE) is expected to make a decision on the case involving the two Rastafarian students and the Achimota school administration today.

The Achimota school denied admission to two Rastafarian students, Oheneba Kwaku Nkrabea and Tyrone Iras Marhguy, for their dreadlocks on their first day of showing up at the school.

According to Citi News sources, the Ministry of Education in a meeting held on Thursday (March 25, 2021) with the Rastafarian students’ family, asked the factions in dispute to cease fire until Monday, March 29, 2021, for a resolution of the matter. .

Rastafarian students were prohibited from starting the academic year at Achimota School due to their dreadlocks.

The duo: Tyrone Iras Marhguy and Oheneba Kwaku Nkrabea were placed in the school through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) after having met the entry requirement by credibly passing their Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE).

However, Achimota school authorities require the two students to cut their hair before their admission status can be formally guaranteed.

Several Ghanaians have reprimanded the school for taking such action.

A previous GES directive for the school to admit students was rejected by the management of the second cycle institution.

This was supported by the Alumni Association and the School Parent Teacher Association.

Meanwhile,

Raswad Menkrabea, the father of one of the children, was not enthusiastic about the school’s insistence on turning away students and has threatened to sue the school.
