At least one person is dead and another missing after a speeding car sank into the Akora River in Agona Swedru.

Four survivors are recovering at the Swedru Government Hospital in the Central Region.

Agona Swedru police accused the driver of driving recklessly and causing negligent damage.

Agona Swedru Police say the suspect, Samuel Konadu, who was the driver in charge of the unregistered Toyota Corolla with four other occupants, was driving from Texapo, a suburb of Agona Swedru to Chapel Square also in Swedru.

Upon reaching a stretch of road in Donkor Spot, the speeding driver lost control of the steering wheel while driving around a curve and knocked over a lady and a gentleman who were standing on the side of the road.

The vehicle subsequently collided with a metal container next to the Akora Bridge and eventually sank into the river.

The occupants of the car were able to swim to shore, however, the gentleman who was hit by the car at full speed, a 23-year-old boy, died on the spot and his body has been deposited in the morgue.

Since then her counterpart, the female, who also fell into the river, has not been found.

The crashed vehicle has been removed from the scene and the police have confiscated it for further examination.

Local NADMO authorities say they are searching for the woman and no family member has come forward to announce the disappearance of a relative.

Meanwhile, residents say rituals will be held on the Akora River to get the lady out.
