The Parliament’s Nominating Committee will examine Ken Ofori-Atta, the nominees for the President’s Finance Minister, on Thursday 25 March.
The public hearing, which is strictly by invitation, will air live on public broadcaster GBC at 10 am.
The Committee was unable to examine Mr. Ofori-Atta after it was announced in February that he would travel to the US for a special medical examination based on the advice of his doctor.
This was as a result of the medical complications he suffered after recovering from Covid-19 in December 2020.
Mr. Ofori-Atta requested at another time to be examined by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, as his condition did not allow him to face it.
However, he was expected to return in two weeks, but was unable to arrive in time.
In his absence, President Akufo-Addo appointed Charles Adu Boahen as his special representative in the Ministry of Finance.
In an unprecedented move, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, was appointed Acting Finance Minister.
Suame’s deputy presented the government’s 2021 Budget Statement to Parliament.
Days later, speaking at a PwC Post Budget Virtual Forum, Mr. Ofori-Atta stated that he felt better attributing his speedy recovery to God and the prayers of the Ghanaians.
He noted that the doctors who were “manipulating” him are even surprised by his rapid recovery rate.
Mr. Ofori-Atta also thanked Mr. Charles Adu Boahen and the ministry staff for how they handled the budget preparation and presentation.
Speaking on the Joy News PM Express on Monday, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin told host Evans Mensah that Mr. Ofori-Atta was back in town healthy and cordial.
The Effutu deputy who is a member of the Committee said they were waiting for a communication from the presidency to proceed to investigate the co-founder of Databank Group.
