The Greater Accra youth wing of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on the Akufo-Addo administration to reintroduce state farms as part of its flagship Planting For Food and Job agricultural program.

Reintroducing the Nkrumah agricultural program as part of the current program, they say, will not only increase productivity in the agricultural sector, but will create massive jobs for young people.

The call was made at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra by Jerry Baidoo, an executive member of the party’s youth wing in Greater Accra.

Jerry Baidoo thinks that Planting for food and jobs is a laudable idea, but reintroducing the concept of state farms will be more beneficial than it is now.

Aidoo, who referred to the indiscipline among young people, attributed it to the lack of employment in the country. However, he admonished the revival of the Workers’ Brigade and the Young Pioneers Movement which were instituted by the First President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He said that the Young Pioneers Movement was started to provide a constant source of education on patriotism and civic responsibility which, according to him, is a lost value in our society that needs to be restored.

Henry Aiddoo believes that the lack of patriotism and nationalism among citizens, seen in the actions of some secessionist groups, threatens the stability of the country.

“The sense of nationality is gradually diminishing and tribal fanaticism is rearing its ugly head across our nation,” said Jerry Aidoo.

According to him, the defunct Young Pioneers Movement taught and instilled the 2-point Code of Discipline in Ghanaians, values such as love of the country, discipline, obedience, honesty, morality, punctuality, reliability.
