The porous nature of our borders makes tax collection difficult – GRA

One of the main challenges that hinders revenue collection in the Upper East region in terms of taxes is the porous nature of the borders.

This has been attributed to people’s lack of understanding of why they should pay taxes.

It was revealed by the Regional Manager Mr. Baffor Asare of the Preventive Service and Customs Executives (CEPS) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in an interview with our Correspondent Emmanuel Akayeti in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

Mr. Asare said goodbye to the Upper East Region to honor his upcoming appointment in the oil sector as Deputy Commissioner.

He has been working with GRA’s Customs Division in the Upper East Region for the past two years and has accumulated a lot of experience in generating revenue in the Region. He shared some of his experience on people’s perception of the tax system.

Mr. Asare, who had his primary education in the Upper East region, said that the people are warm and welcoming and ready to help you achieve your stated goal.

He advised his colleagues to forge good working relationships within themselves and with their sister immigration department, as well as with people within the communities.
