The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the northern region has suspended its president of the Mion constituency, Alhaji Abdulai Zakaria, with immediate effect for three months pending the hearing of the final determination of the petition against his conduct.

A statement signed by the NDC North Regional President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila, indicated that at a meeting held on March 20, 2021, the North Regional Functional Executive Committee (NRFEC) considered a request from Mohammed Abukari and one hundred eleven ( 111) other registered party members who filed a formal complaint against the conduct of the president of Mion during the 2020 general election, which is considered a violation of the party’s disciplinary code for its members, as set out in the NDC constitution.

The statement further states that after carefully listening to the recorded conversations attached as evidence to the petition and deliberating on the petition, a decision was made pursuant to Article 46 (1), 46 (6) and 46 (8) of the constitution of the party with immediate effect his position in the Mion constituency will be suspended for a period of three (3) months.

According to the statement, the matter has been referred to the party’s Regional Disciplinary Committee for further action to be taken.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the northern part of Ghana has witnessed the massive suspension of executives from its constituency over the results of the 2020 general election.

Last week, the chairman of the Daboya / Mankarigu constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed Murtala and 10 others who were suspended by the party in connection with the 2020 general elections refused to honor an invitation from the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

DGN online understands that the executives suspended at the constituency level are because these executives allegedly campaigned against their party in the 2020 general elections.
