Stories about Ghana’s former military leader Jerry John Rawlings will never go away.
One such story has been shared by sportswriter Saddick Adams (Sports Obama) about how a very wealthy businessman in the early days of former President Rawlings’ PNDC regime had to hide his luxurious car.
The businessman whose name Saddick gave as Alhaji Agya Benz, was forced to lock his exotic Mercedes Benz in a reinforced garage to prevent it from being confiscated.
Saddick Adams revealed on his Twitter account:
“For those who grew up in BA [the then Brong Ahafo Region], this man was very wealthy and popular in the 1970-80s. He was the only millionaire who could buy this Mercedes in the early 1980s when JJ Rawlings was a military leader. Rawlings wanted to get hold of the car, so the man made a special metal garage to hide the car. “
He added that the garage was forced to open after more than 35 years.
“This car used to be the talk of the town on Techiman. I saw it on Anas Sabit Facebook.
“Alhaji Agyaa was his name. The car was popularly called” Alhaji Agyaa Benz, “he wrote.
Since then, the post has attracted several comments and reactions from people recounting their experience of desperately trying to get a view of the car in those days.
“He is still alive and well, those days I remember when we went through the garage to see this car, they told us that the car flies, it has a machine gun. This man is a great man, ”wrote @boyfriction.
A Jibril Idris commented:
“The man is still alive. He stays in Techiman zongo “.
