The Participatory Action for Rural Development Alternatives (PARDA), a non-governmental organization, has commissioned a newly built Early Childhood Development (ECD) center in Saboro, a community in Chiana in the Western District of Kassena-Nankana Region from the Upper East.

The facility, which has two classrooms and offices, was funded by Children Believe (CB), a child-focused NGO based in Tamale, in the northern region, whose goal is to improve early childhood education in the community. .

The ECD center also had axillary facilities, such as toilets and a spacious playground with recreational facilities for the kindergarten students, who until now were housed in a dilapidated structure, while others sat under the trees for lessons.

PARDA also equipped the center with teaching and learning materials and introduced 65 hand-washing facilities in schools in the Builsa and Kassena-Nankana areas to support them in fighting the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Michael Wombeogo, PARDA director in his speech at the commissioning ceremony for the school, said the initiative was one of PARDA’s child development programs implemented in the Builsa and Kassena-Nankana areas to ensure that children from those areas had access to basic education.

“We do not want any child within our operational areas to stay home with the excuse of a lack of school facilities. We hope that with the support of CB and all its donors, we can reach all the communities ”.

Dr. Wombeogo commissioned Saboro bosses and people to take proper care of the facilities to last to serve future generations, “Manage it just as you do with the resources of this community.”

He said: “Children are the future leaders of this country and we want all children in this community to reach their full potential. It is our responsibility to ensure that we protect and support them to reach their full potential. “

It revealed that, in addition to the installation, PARDA had trained about 200 adolescents in personal hygiene so that they could take care of themselves, and 200 students in child protection with a focus on sexual and reproductive rights.

Ms. Esenam Kavi De Souza, CB Country Manager, indicated that the newly commissioned school was one of six infrastructure projects in the North and Upper East Regions that her organization funded during the current fiscal year.

He said that for the past three years, CB had focused on improving ECD by promoting good health and nutrition with a focus on the first 1000 days of life, positive and responsible care, the safety and security of children and the early learning education.

“As an organization, we recognize the importance of getting off to a good start. The early childhood period is when the most significant brain development occurs, particularly in the first two years of life, and this determines a child’s future into adulthood. “

Upper East Regional Director of Education Edward Azure, who received the keys to the center, said that most of the ECD centers in the region did not have adequate structures and facilities to fulfill their purpose and expressed his gratitude to PARDA and CB for The initiative.

Mr. Jonathan Atimpe, member of the assembly of the electoral areas of Kafania, Saboro and Adognia on behalf of the chiefs and the people of Saboro, thanked the NGOs for their quest to improve early childhood development in the community and asked for more support from other schools in the Chiana area.
