A group calling itself Ghana Youth for Development (GYFD) has asked Ghanaians not to buy a 30 pesewas sachet of pure water.

This follows the price increase from 20 pesewas to 30 pesewas by some sellers.

The group is urging Ghanaians across the country to resist the 20 percent price hike.

In a statement, GYFD said: “The police must arrest people who sell pure water at 30 pesewas.”

According to the group, despite the increase in the price of a bag of pure water, selling a bag for 30 pence is not right.

“Previously, it was GHS3.00 per bag and those who have bought refrigerators to trade sell it at GHS3.50 so that the common pure water seller who has no money to buy a refrigerator to go there and buy the already chilled water and sell.

“After selling a bag of water in sachets, you make a profit of GHS2.50. Nowadays, the price has increased from GHS3.00 to GHS3.50 per bag, so the one who has bought his own refrigerator to cool the water for the common pure water seller has also increased the price from GHS3.50 to GHS4. 00, which is very reasonable. ”

The group noted: “The bag of water in a sachet now gives a profit of GHS2.00. Is not sufficient?”

“Some pure water sellers have raised their prices just to fool Ghanaians, hence the call. If you buy a good at GHS 4.00 and sell it at GHS 30, you will make a profit of GHS 5.00 because 30 pesewas multiplied by 30 will give you GHS 9.00, which is a trap ”.

The group also stressed: “If you buy water at that price, you are helping them to deceive the common man on the street and also to get rich overnight, so report any seller of pure water who sells it. at 30 pesetas was the police. ”

He called on the Ghana Police Service, Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh, to instruct his men to enforce an order that “there should be no price increase for the common man on the street.”
