The player who ran over a police officer and killed him was released on bail on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The Ghanaian Premier League central defender was held in custody for two weeks by His Honorable Osei Kofi Amoako after the incident that resulted in the death of the police officer on March 1, 2021.

The footballer was arrested and charged with around six counts, including: careless and inconsiderate driving and causing damage through negligence.

According to initial investigations by the prosecution, the police officer, Police Officer Amos Maatey Niganoko, from Wamfie Police Station, died on the spot and his body has since been deposited at Dormaa Presby Hospital.

According to the police statement, Officer Maatey was on duty with a certain sergeant. Ibrahim Karim and asked permission to go to the city to buy mosquito repellent.

But after being absent for several hours, fellow officers tried to locate him to no avail.

According to the statement, the police were alerted to a lifeless body suspected of being the victim of an accident on the Asuotiano-Asuhyiae highway around 7 am on Tuesday, March 2.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the body was that of Sheriff Maatey and investigations began immediately, leading to the arrest of the Aduana Stars central defender.
