Solskjaer expects a big boost for his team ahead of the Europa League clash in Milan on Thursday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to have up to five players back from injury for Manchester United’s trip to AC Milan on Thursday.
Paul Pogba, who has not played since emerging from a 3-3 draw at Everton in early February, is also in contention heading into a crucial week for United.
United are hoping to reserve their places in the Europa League quarter-finals and FA Cup semi-final, and the additions to their team will be a boost.
What was said?
Solskjaer confirmed that they should have more players available for Thursday’s second leg against AC Milan at San Siro.
He said: “Injury-wise I hope we have four or five players back for that game, Edinson (Cavani) and Anthony (Martial) are very likely in shape, Donny (van de Beek) hopefully too, Paul (Pogba) could even make the trip and David (de Gea) has returned from isolation, that’s more numbers, today we had two goalkeepers on the bench, so we need them back ”.
How long has Pogba been gone?
Pogba was in good shape when he injured his thigh, which has seen him lose nine games for United in all competitions. Cavani has missed the last four games by one hit.

If Solskjaer can win back all those players and play well, then it would give United a real boost heading into the final weeks of the campaign. This week’s knockout matches against AC Milan and Leicester are season-defining matches. Solskjaer wants and needs silverware and could be propelled into another semi-final and quarter-finals if he sails well enough in the next two games.
Pogba was key to United’s unbeaten streak earlier in the year, which saw them rise to the top of the table. If he can find that way again, then they have a real shot in the coming weeks for a strong season finale.
Similarly, the forwards have been miserable in front of the net, so a Cavani in good shape during the final weeks of the season, possibly his last at Old Trafford, could also prove beneficial.
