Former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor believes a woman is likely to occupy the highest seat in the country.

According to him, the demands of time would lead to a woman becoming president of the country. Her comments are produced within the framework of International Women’s Day under the theme ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equitable future in a Covid-19 world’.

The one who strongly believes in the ability of women spoke in an exclusive interview with Afia Kwarteng Asamani of Atinka News.

The former president explained that of the three arms of the government (Executive, Judicial, Legislative) two have experienced the leadership of women and one has not yet managed to get a woman to take command, but expressed optimism that the possibility is high.

“We have had two women as President of the Supreme Court, one woman as Speaker of Parliament and recently a woman was a running mate in the 2020 elections. This shows that women are bridging the gap and, over time, the people of Ghana. he would realize that it is time to have a president. It’s not a rush, but time would present that opportunity to women, ”he said.

The gender advocate does not believe in symbolism, so he would not push for the agenda to award positions to any woman except women with the capacity and skills to execute the task.

Mr. Kufuor applauded the women for taking advantage of the opportunities that the country and successive governments offered them.

Commenting on the ministerial appointments of President Akufo-Addo, he was of the firm belief that the president will give a fair share to women in the country, as that has been his trademark. She called for support for the president to continually push women to reach higher heights.

She advised women to prioritize childcare to prepare children who would contribute significantly to the country’s development agenda.
