Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘set to return with Sweden for World Cup qualifiers’ later this month

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to make a sensational international comeback for Sweden after a four-year hiatus, reportedly on his hole ground.

The veteran ace last played for his country at Euro 2016 and even insisted last year that he had no plans to return.

FotbollDirekt has claimed that Ibrahimovic will don the Sweden jersey once again, however, for his upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.

Various sources have told the publication that the 39-year-old will appear against Georgia on March 25 and Kosovo on March 28, as well as in the friendly with Estonia.

Janne Andersson’s team is expected to show up on March 16 and Ibrahimovic is said to be increasingly likely to receive another call-up.

Speculation has risen about a comeback since last fall, with Ibrahimovic, recognized as Sweden’s best player, meeting with boss Andersson in Milan.

Andersson admitted on Olof Lundh’s podcast that the November summit took place, but explained that the discussions only resulted in an agreement to stay in touch.

Ibrahimovic’s current club AC Milan is believed to have been informed of Sweden’s wish to select him later this month.

Ibrahimovic has scored 62 goals in 116 appearances for Sweden, making him the record scorer for his country.

However, it seemed that her fairy tale return to the biggest stage of theirs had been scrapped entirely.

An Instagram post by Ibrahimovic showed him playing for Sweden and was titled ‘How Long No See’.

He soon clarified that the charge was, strangely, an attempt to get under the skin of the people of his homeland.

Ibrahimovic’s excellent form continues to defy his old age, and the target man has scored 14 goals in as many games this season in Serie A for Milan.

But, having criticized athletes’ involvement in politics and activism, Ibrahimovic has recently come under scrutiny.

The forward has had a disagreement with NBA legend LeBron James after warning athletes: “Do what you do best because it doesn’t look good.”
