Two alleged recruitment scammers are in the hands of the Ghana Immigration Service in Tema for allegedly defrauding some 30 unsuspecting victims to the tune of more than ¢ 250,000.00

The suspects are Awuah Forson, 46, and his accomplice, Ekow Hackman, 71.

On Friday February 26, 2021, a woman who had allegedly paid GH ¢ 10,600.00 for suspecting that Forson visited the Immigration Academy and Training School in Assin Fosu in the Central region to authenticate her identity.

However, she was disappointed to learn that there was no one by that name.

The Public Relations Officer of the Immigration Academy and Training School, ASI Roland Aziz showed interest in her situation and decided to follow up on the case.

He then planned with her how he might meet the suspect.

ASI Aziz then planted four officers from the Immigration Academy and Training School who will travel with her to meet the suspect.

One of the four officers had to pretend to be the brother of the victim who wanted to enlist.

The victim then called the suspect who wanted to meet her on Saturday in Winneba, but then she switched to Kasoa, then Accra, and finally Tema.

In an interview with Joy News, public relations officer for the Tema region, DSI Mercy Budu said that around 2:00 pm that day, ASI Roland Aziz contacted her about the recruitment fraud syndicate that needed to be stopped.

DSI Budu immediately relayed the information to the Operations Department in Tema, which dispatched an officer to assist the team on the ground.

The suspect at the time had picked up the victim and her said brother from a hotel in Tema upon arrival while the remaining officers closely monitored.

On Sunday, the suspect and his accomplice then showed up to collect the money from the interested applicant where they were both arrested.

Topic Operations Chief, ACI James Hayford Boadi has warned the public not to engage with individuals claiming to recruit interested applicants.

“The Immigration Service does not sublet its recruitment exercise to an individual or group of people, whether they are civilians or men in uniform. GIS does it only under the Ministry of the Interior. “

He indicated that the suspects are being questioned so that the law takes its course.

As for the victims receiving their money, this will depend on the service being able to recover it from the suspects.

ACI Boadi took the opportunity to thank Tema Immigration Regional Commander, ACI Kojo Oppong Yeboah, Immigration Academy Commander and Training School, ACI Alex Adu and Tema Regional PRO, DSI Mercy Budu.

The rest are PROs for the Immigration Academy and Training School, ASI Roland Aziz and researcher, Senior Insp. Emmanuel Abeiku Quainoo, recruiting officers, Michael Ofori, Clinton Osei Mensah, Manford and Aikens Boateng for making the operation a success.
