A 29-year-old woman, Margaret Sam, was allegedly killed by her husband, an unemployed commercial vehicle driver, in Olebu, near Ablekuman, in the Ga West district in the Greater Accra region.
The body of the deceased was found two days after she was allegedly strangled in the couple’s bedroom.
Police found a piece of cloth tied tightly around his neck and head, while a hammer and kitchen knife stained with what was suspected to be human blood were also found in the room.
The husband, Kofi Aboagye, 32, is said to have left his three children with his mother, who lived in the same house, and ran away after he allegedly murdered the wife.
Police report
Confirming the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ms. Effia Tenge, said Aboagye’s mother reported to the police on February 26, 2021, about an offensive odor emanating from a room occupied by his son and his wife.
The mother, whose name has been withheld, is said to have told police Aboagye left her three children in her care around 3:30 a.m. on February 24, 2021.
According to the police, the mother claimed that Aboagye had told her that his wife had gone out and that he too was going to look for work as a commercial driver.
Bad smell
After two days, the mother said she woke up to the smell and reported it to the police.
Consequently, the police broke into the room and found the body.
The Ghana Police Headquarters Crime Scene Team was then called in to assist with the investigations.
Since then, the body has been transferred to the Accra Police Hospital morgue, while the police have launched a search for Aboagye.
