Thomas Tuchel upset with Callum Hudson-Odoi after Chelsea draw against Southampton
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed dissatisfaction with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s attitude in the Southampton match.
Chelsea came back from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against the Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Blues dominated possession to a large extent, but failed to forge any major opening in the first period.
This prompted Tuchel to remove Tammy Abraham at halftime and introduce Hudson-Odoi instead. Having largely played as a winger in the new coach’s tenure, the Englishman was asked to do a job higher up the field.
However, Hudson-Odoi, despite showing some good moments, could not achieve the desired impact, as his decision making and final product did not match the level that the manager expected of him.
Tuchel’s frustrations were clearly visible on the touchline and, in a bold move, the German got ahead of Hudson-Odoi half an hour after he sent him, with Hakim Ziyech replacing him.
Asked about his drastic play in the second period, Tuchel responded by saying he was not satisfied with what he saw from the Englishman.
“I was not happy with his attitude, energy and counter pressure. In a game where it was not easy to create chances, you have to rely on the fast break to force mistakes to get the second ball and have the easy chance.
“And for that, you need to be totally attentive and ready to push back and I didn’t feel this with Callum today. He missed a few opportunities to counter and missed a few easy balls and I had a feeling he was never really in the game. “

Tuchel insisted that the replacement will not affect the couple’s relationship and also stated that it will not harm the Hudson-Odoi replacement. However, it is never easy from a gamer’s perspective to go through something like this. Hopefully, the young man will recover strongly.
