The executive director of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has said that his team is recruiting 50,000 people to participate in a cocoa rehabilitation exercise across the country.

According to him, some 30,000 people had already been hired for manual pollination, while another 48,000 had been hired for mass spraying of cocoa.

Interacting with the media over the weekend in Abesim, near Sunyani, during a visit to the Bono region, Aidoo said that the cocoa sector contributed a substantial aspect of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, and that cocoa products also have enormous health benefits.

“Cocoa has a significant impact on blood circulation and improves cognitive intelligence,” he said, advising Ghanaians to consume more cocoa products to strengthen their immune system against disease.

Mr. Aidoo stated that Ghana produces the highest quality cocoa beans, hence the need for the nation to invest heavily and make the sector a catalyst to expand the nation’s foreign income earnings.
