Manchester City have received seven penalties in the Premier League this season. Only Leicester City (10) have had more
Manchester City extended their winning streak to 15 games and their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points as they easily defeated Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
Ilkay Gundogan scored twice after Rodri put City ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first period.
Raheem Sterling could have had another one later as City strengthened their grip at the top, where they also have a game in hand over second-placed Leicester.
It was a night of punishment for Tottenham and their coach José Mourinho.
When they won the first meeting between these teams in November, Tottenham was at the top of the table.
Since then, City have taken 41 points out of a possible 45 to take a decisive lead in the title race.
In contrast, the Spurs have now accumulated 16 points in 14 games and have lost four of five games in all competitions and remain in eighth place.
With this evidence, few will give Mourinho any chance of beating Pep Guardiola at Wembley when these teams meet in the Carabao Cup final on April 25.

Ederson all smiles after penalty pain
After last week’s win at Liverpool, when Gundogan became the third City player to miss from the post, Guardiola suggested that goalkeeper Ederson could be next in line.
It was not entirely clear if the city chief was joking.
Ederson certainly did not think so judging by the way the Brazilian advanced with determination after the video assistant referee confirmed the foul on Gundogan by Pierre-Emile Hojberg.
It took a steady hand from Bernardo Silva to stop him and there was an element of discontent in the way Ederson returned to his position when Rodri found the net.
It was easy to feel sympathy for the City goalkeeper.
Aside from Harry Kane’s free kick that hit the post in the opening minutes, Ederson had virtually nothing to do until Erik Lamela shot him directly before the hour.
However, his disappointment did not last.
When he dropped a superb long pass from the edge of his own area onto the visiting defense for Gundogan, the German made sure Ederson could claim the assist for a rather brilliant goal as he edged past Davinson Sánchez before finishing excellently. .
From 70 meters away, Ederson celebrated with a broad smile and a thumbs up.
He brought Gundogan’s tally to 11 goals in 12 matches, having already benefited from Raheem Sterling’s excellent control and passing to double the hosts’ lead five minutes after the break.
There was concern about how Gundogan’s night ended when he was substituted for what appeared to be a groin injury.
City will hope the issue doesn’t keep the Premier League player of the month out for long.
