Pep Guardiola has challenged Hansi Flick and Bayern Munich to a ‘battle of sextuplets’ after the German team equaled their record of six consecutive trophies during their time in Barcelona.
Bayern beat Mexico’s Tigres UANL 1-0 on Thursday, thanks to Benjamin Pavard’s decisive goal, to win the Club World Cup and their sixth trophy in less than nine months.
Having won the league, the two national cups, the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup, Bayern became the second team to win the six-fold after Guardiola set the record with Barcelona in 2009.
As a result, the Manchester City manager, who spent three years as Bayern manager before moving to the Premier League, shared a video on Twitter to congratulate his former team.
He also took the opportunity to challenge Hansi and is on the side of a showdown for the ‘seventh title’.
He said: ‘Big congratulations to the entire Bayern family for this incredible success, for being Club World Cup champions and especially for winning six titles.
‘We are so proud, I am so proud, a big congratulations to everyone, especially Hansi [Flick], the players and the back room staff for this amazing thing.
But I would like to tell Hansi that you are the second team to win all six titles in a row!
“Before you, there was another team, Barcelona … so maybe I can call Messi and company and we can play for the seventh title? Tell me when and where and we’ll be there! ‘
Bayern came close to completing the six-fold with Guardiola in 2013, having won the Bundesliga title in every season he was in charge.
