Spurs mistakes are ‘killing’ them and ‘they will never challenge consistently’ – Ghana soccer latest news, live scores, results

Rio Ferdinand believes that individual mistakes are “killing” Tottenham and mean that they are not yet ready to consistently compete for the highest honors.

Tottenham’s 30-year wait for an FA Cup will continue after their thrilling 5-4 loss at Everton in the fifth round of the competition at Goodison Park.

But despite their offensive prowess and goals from Davinson Sánchez, Erik Lamela and Harry Kane, the Spurs’ performance was ruined by individual errors, most notably Hugo Lloris for the Dominic Calvert-Lewin draw to make it 1- 1.

The loss, which was sealed when Bernard scored in extra time, means that Spurs have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, and Sunday’s Premier League win against West Brom is their only recent success.

And former defender Ferdinand insists he “feels sorry” for Mourinho, who he says has to deal regularly with plans that go awry due to his team’s propensity for individual mistakes.

‘I actually feel sorry for him [Mourinho] in a way, because in recent weeks it has changed quite a few times in the way they have approached the games, “said Ferdinand.

West Brom was a little different, but it changed when Harry Kane wasn’t playing, for example, and now tonight they were open and expansive.

But each and every one of those recent moments is being undone by individual moments and mistakes.

“As a coach you can prepare all you want for each game, but these individual mistakes are killing you, so in that sense I feel sorry for him because sometimes he derails his whole plan that he has worked on all week.

When asked if the problem of individual errors had to do with the quality of the players at Mourinho’s disposal, Ferdinand added: ‘It’s a quality thing.

‘[There are] Too many players constantly make mistakes, and it leaves them open and has them chasing games part of the time.

“Until they get it right and eradicate those kinds of mistakes, they can never see themselves as a team that is really going to constantly challenge.

“Mistakes lead to goals, they leave you chasing and they leave you open and that constantly causes problems.”

Tottenham’s realistic hopes for silver now lie in the Carabao Cup final, when they face Manchester City in late April, and in this season’s Europa League.
