Brazilian superstar Neymar has received another crushing injury and is said to have only a “weak hope” of facing his former club Barcelona in the Champions League next week.
Neymar was thrown to the ground during PSG’s Coupe de France win over Caen on Wednesday night, following a tough tackle just after the second half began.
The 29-year-old was immediately removed from the field after writhing in agony clutching his knee, but was able to limp off the field while complaining furiously to the fourth official.
Reports in France now claim that Neymar left the stadium before the match was over and was escorted in the back of a van, rather than the team’s official coach.
The Brazilian was coming off the ground and could be seen limping, according to L’Equipe journalist David Aiello.
Neymar is reported to have left long before his teammates and is now facing a frenzied battle to get fit in time for the emotional Barça showdown on Tuesday February 16.
‘The exams will take place tonight or tomorrow morning but the PSG entourage is pessimistic to go against Barça. However, at this time there is a weak hope, “he added.
“I do not regret choosing to play Neymar,” coach Mauricio Pochettino told Eurosport.
I was fit to play. These things happen.’
Late Wednesday night, Neymar hinted that he is now pinning all his hopes on a miraculous recovery in the space of six days, after using the social media platform Twitter to post a cryptic message.
“Honor and glory to God at all times,” wrote Neymar, along with the symbol of a loving heart and hands in prayer.
His teammate Moise Kean, who scored the game-winning goal in the match, took a more optimistic tone, telling reporters below: ‘Everything is fine, he’s ready. Tomorrow, in training, he will recover. He’ll be ready for the game. ‘
