The Designated Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, has stated that he participated in the initial stages of acquiring the Covid-19 testing facility at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
According to the designated minister, he was briefed on the initiative midway through the negotiations and made his effort to ensure that the facility was well equipped to facilitate its operations.
“I am not very aware of the initial stages of the acquisition because it was a joint operation between the national Covid-19 task force and the Ghana Health Service (GHS). By the time I found out, the arrangements had been finalized, ”he told the Nominating Committee.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu further stated that because his approach was to make sure the test facility was ready before KIA reopened, he did not go through the processes adopted by the GHS and National working group again. Covid-19.
“I was more interested in setting up the facility and providing the best health officials to take care of the facility. So I did not question these matters again to the extent that you want me to answer them, “he said.
But minority chief Mohammed Muntaka, who questioned the designated minister, further accused Mr. Agyeman-Manu of not paying attention to the operations of the test facility even after it was established.
Muntaka stated that a section of Ghanaians held several protests and press conferences to insist on the need for the Health Ministry to address the problems, in particular the fee charged for testing, but it all fell on deaf ears.
However, in his response, Mr. Agyeman-Manu refuted the accusation, stating: “That will not be correct. I paid attention to them, so it resulted in lower fees for at least ECOWAS citizens.
“So I really paid attention to how they were operating, but I just didn’t interrogate the procurement processes.”
