Sergeant Prince Dogbatse, a public affairs officer for the Volta Regional Police Command, says the Command has not authorized a demonstration against the president’s candidate, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, as the new Regional Minister.

Sergeant Dogbatse, in a copied press release to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), revealed that the Command had information about the demonstration scheduled for Monday, January 25.
He said that although the Police were obliged to provide security for properly organized “law-abiding citizens” to participate in legitimate activities, including demonstrations, the increase in COVID-19 cases in the region could not allow the Group to undertake the planned action.
The Public Affairs Officer, who said the event could endanger public health and safety, warned all citizens to take note of the directive and be warned of the consequences of non-compliance.
“The Command, in any special event duly organized by members of the public, has the duty to provide security to law-abiding citizens to participate in such legitimate activities as demonstrations and processions.
He said the Command “at this critical time” was determined to support other key stakeholders in containing the pandemic to ensure public health and safety.
Sergeant Dogbat was advised the public to continue to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols, such as proper use of face or nasal masks, social distancing, regular hand washing, and frequent hand sanitization to contain the spread of the deadly pandemic.
The Volta region currently has 106 active cases and two deaths in two weeks with cases mainly in Ho, Hohoe, North Tongu and Ketu North.
